On March 27th, the Future Forums classes across the Waterloo Region District went on their very first live Ted Talk. The theme was Chasing Home. If you look at my last blog, you'll see that I've written about what Chasing Home means to me. The Ted talk in my opinion was amazing! I absolutely loved it! My favourite part of the entire Ted talk was the talent pre-show portion of it. Being from JHSS, I was cheering on our very own amazing freestyle dancers which were awesome, and ended up tying the show with another pair of amazing singers! Although the beginning of the show was my favourite, the Ted talk speakers were incredible and extremely inspiring. My top 3 favourite speakers of the day were probably Richard McLean, Holly Painter and Alicia Evans. Richard McLean was a homeless man who went through many traumatic times in his childhood. I feel his story was the best of all speakers because he was the only person who didn't have any fancy videos or merchandise or any special talent. He just got up on the stage and told his story. I feel his was the best because everyone likes hearing stories, not matter what age, so when he got up and told his story, it was very emotional and quite captivating. I loved it, definitely my favourite speaker of the day. Holly Painter was a slam poet that had a great vision about an everyday event nobody noticed. Holly got up on stage and she performed her poem about the comparison between bullying and The Hunger Games. She was basically saying that how is putting 24 kids into an arena for a fight to the death any different than a group of children picking on a child who is different. I found her poetry very intriguing and eye-opening if nothing else. I recognized these two issues and the darkness within them, but I never thought they would ever be compared in such a way. It was truly amazing. And lastly, Alicia Evans. I found that as a person who doesn't know what or how to go about life, she was quite relatable in that aspect. I felt that she related more to the audience because she was saying 'Why were we here?' and 'Why am I here?'. I feel that these questions are important to someone who doesn't know what they want to do in the future. I liked how she portrayed herself and how she explained how she didn't know what she wanted to do until she tried absolutely everything! Overall, my thoughts of the Ted Talk would be a 4/5 because some aspects weren't my favourite, but in the end, they tried and got their word out and that's the important thing. If I had a chance to go to the Ted Talk again next year, it would d
