I went to go see this movie last night, and I thought it was pretty good. The synopsis of this story is basically the upcoming story of how Oscar Diggs, a phony wizard, became the Wizard of Oz. I think that the story line and plot was portrayed really well and the special effects/visual effects were amazing! The Emerald City and the Yellow Brick Road were perfected! The only thing I did not like about the movie was really the casting choices. I think James Franco was a good choice of Oz, as well as Michelle Williams for Glenda I found that Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis wasn't exactly the best choices for evil witches per say. I think that they might have needed a more accomplished actress to be evil enough. When she would yell or make an evil cackle, it would sound kind of sweet, not really evil. My opinion, Rachel Weisz was fine, but I think someone like Charlize Theron as Mila Kunis, due to her amazing performance in Snow White and the Huntsmen. But that's my opinion, I just knew that right from the start I knew who the Wicked Witch of the East. I feel that all the hype about the movie was worth it, and I definitely recommend it to most people. I think it was more geared towards under 20.
Thomas D(GRCI): I agree that the target audience was probably under 20 but older people 30 - 50's read the book and watched the early movie probably would have sentimental value to them.
Personally, I can't wait to see this movie; I've heard some great things about it. I'm not overly analytical of things like voice acting and actor choice, so I'll probably enjoy it for the special effects and plot. I think my Com Tech class is going to see it as a field trip.
@Thomas I can definitely see that happening. Nostalgia is a powerful feeling.
Overall, the movie was amazing. I'm just one of those people who over analyse everything. I find that the special effects were amazing! Have fun with your comm tech class! :)
